"WHERE THERE IS AN OPEN MIND THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A FRONTIER". CHARLES KETTERING
Last night, while perusing profiles that caught my eye, so to say, I came across a rather consistent phrase in many of the men's written essay sections about themselves, as well as the woman they search for. Most of these men from age 50 (some at age 45-50) had indicated their preferred "age groups" to be from 25 to 50, 40 to 65, 18 to 40, 30 to 55, 18-99, or some other combination of "younger" versus "older" women. Older being as compared to his own age, or in rare instances, older than he.
This phrase was "a woman who has an open mind", or, "a woman who is open minded". I wondered, what does that mean? We all know "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" So, I thought, perhaps a man's meaning would be quite different than mine.
Is it having a mind open to suggestion, adventure; a non stagnant mind, ie, a woman who thinks in a pro-active or progressive way, an explorer, versus limiting her mind to a comfort zone she does not want to venture beyond, a woman who limits change in her life? Is this phrase aimed towards a "sexual" nature of openness? What does "open mind" mean? And, is this particular attribute / personality trait aimed towards women in a definitive age group?
For the most part, the phrase seemed to appear in those men's profiles wherein the man was over the age of 50. By his age preference, he is interested in younger women, but, will also consider an older woman, apparently leaving his options "OPEN" to women of many ages.
But, is this statement meant to distinguish younger minds from older minds of women? Do men see women over 45 as "set in their ways", or, too experienced in life to still have the explorer personality / mindset? Is this personality / personal trait mentioned in his profile to indicate to older women who may be interested in him, that he is open to meeting them IF they still have a 'young' mind. I wondered, is this a comparison he uses between younger women who are still "adventurous" to explore life and an older woman who, through his own experience with some, has lost that desire?
I wondered, do these men feel that the male, after the age of 45-50 are more adventurous, more the explorer of life, more "live life to the fullest" personality as compared to women their own age?
I began to look within myself for answers, but, realized I needed the question answered, the phrase defined, before I was able to search within to see if my mind was "open" as defined by a man.
So, gentlemen, here is your opportunity to share your thoughts on the woman you search for that has "an open mind". Are you willing to share your definition and/or thoughts as to why you desire an "open minded woman" ? And, perhaps, it will give the women here an opportunity to experience your communication skills ..... Another topic for discussion I suppose, communication.
But, let us concentrate on the "open mind" first.

Sure, 'open minded' should be a complimentary description. I pride myself on being open minded, tolerant of another's viewpoint or practices. And certainly not everyone who uses the term online means it as I described. But, like it or not, it HAS become code for various types of non-mainstream sexual behavior. For men, AND women. I'll wager I have read more women's profiles than you, so I'll stand by my assertion that it applies to women, too.
For example, I'd like to fly a Confederate flag in my yard on occasion, to celebrate the heritage of our south. But I am aware that various hate groups have appropriated the symbol. If I flew it, 90 % of the viewers would make inaccurate assumptions about me, about my politics or racial opinions. Since I don't wish to SEEM to make a statement that I do not intend, I don't fly a Confererate flag. Unless I wish for people to make inaccurate assumptions of me online, I'll not state I am 'open minded' without an accompanying treatise describing MY intent with the phrase. (And THAT would look weird in itself !) :):)
Just my opinion,

That is a rather good question Willow. A great one to ponder. I, too, often wonder what the term 'open mind' and 'communication' translates to in the masculine mind. I see one of the comments you got pertained to a more sexual matter...I think it is likely that many do think that way...but he has it wrong that women do too. Not all women think like that. Not all men think like that - I do not think. I certainly didn't when I listed myself as open-minded. In my meaning it means to be able to listen and accept someone else's opinion and respect and appreciate their opinion as their own...as the uniqueness of the individual they are. To me it means to be able to accept if soemone likes something that you do not - music for example. To be able to accept rather different or controversial ideas and thoughts - not meaning to adopt it into your own belief or opinion if you do nto agree with it - but to accept it as the person being the individual they are. also, yes, it can pertain to sexual things...Maybe acceptance if the person is bi. Acceptance if the person has fetishes....it is all a part of accepting someone for who they are. So to me, open minded means acceptance of someone. True acceptance without judging them. Acceptance to love or like them for who they are without wanting to change them. Acceptance.
Pardon any typos, I am too tired to even bother right now to make sure I have done everything grammatically corect or to check to make srue everaything is spelled correctly.
Homework has killed me the last few days as well as spending time writing about 5 chapters to a story I am writing. *sighs*
anyways, I am interested as well to see more male opinions to these question you raise Willow. Love Ya, Lynn

CG .................. THANK YOU !! FINALLY !!! Some insight to a seemingly obscure question in my blog!! Code?? There is a code? @#*!@#$#$ Blast ! I knew there was something I forgot to remember at the "Internet Language Class For Today's Singles" ....... I need a refresher course. But, then, if I ask more questions here at MM Blogs perhaps I can bypass the expense of registration fee's as well as the cost of occupying a chair in a dark room. Do you Tutor???

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but when he says he wants a woman with an "open" mind, that is code for "willing to do three-ways" or "would enjoy this montrous dildo I have."
It is code for 'open to sexual experimentation and variations." Same as when a woman says she HAS an "open" mind, or is looking for an "open minded" man. She really wants one who will let her do the pool boy (or girl), too....and maybe help, watch or run the video camera. Or she is "open" to being your 20-something sex toy......in exchange for reciprocal gratification of the green kind.
Sorry to be so coarse, but your bloggers were way off track with their responses to THAT part of your blog.

Hello, Willow... Rereading all of this blog tonight.... I just want to add... Curiosity is indeed a major factor here. Many's the night I've stayed up way past my bedtime reading profiles written by "odd ones" to be sure....and I've wondered so heavily about what could be prompting them to write what they write I'm ALMOST tempted to email them to ask them what they're up to!!!!! I don't, though. I don't. But, it would be "fun" to know what is the mind of some of the men on here who post the profiles that just make no sense...who they are....what they're looking for.... I don't know. I guess I'm just too relatively "normal" to understand the whys and wherefores of some of the WANTS of some of the men on here. But....having been on here now for close to a year, I'm getting awfully tired of bs, phonies, jerks, scammers, control freaks--weirdos of every other stripe.... Too many good friends to be made. Too many people of both sexes to connect with as friends to bother wondering or worrying about those whose failings make my eyeballs spin and my brain short circuit. If I've been harsh, please forgive me. It's really me talking to me; telling me to stop bothering with folks I couldn't find an honest connection with if I wired myself up with 10 tons of CAT 5 cable and spread the plugs out like the feather tips of a peacock going in all directions at once hoping to connect them somewhere....anywhere. Connections happen or they don't. The rest.....Good luck to all of them. Pat

Hmmm ..... interesting thought. I'm sure some would disagree, but, to me, logic can sometimes be a stumbling block when one is trying to understand the human mind, emotions, or thought process ...... I, for one, readily admit .... sometimes I just can't figure it out ..... but usually after I have disected it down to what I think I understand, only to discover I have opened so many side doors of thought that the original thought / search for the answer or logic ..... has been put on the back burner so that I can explore the maze ..... hahahahahaha ...
Perils of a curious mind?
Thank you for your post !!!

If it requires an open mind to select oneself, then it will be self selecting. No need to ask for it. Must be some other reason.
But then, perhaps I am applying logic to something beyond logic.

Willow, you have so many questions.....Your posts are so intelligent....I ALWAYS want to respond to your posts--but I'm usually so tired when I get to them at night, that I don't have enough brain cells left from what I've used during the day to do so....intelligently. More later, my friend. It's already a good hour past my bedtime. I have to be in work tomorrow at 8:30--and I still have to walk yhe dog and shower..... Your posts are most provative. I just wish I had more time to think about them and respond sensibly/intelligently. Pat

Over analyzing? Perhaps.... ~grins~ ... Somtimes my mind has a lot of questions. To each their own tastes .... if they prefer younger, or ARM CANDY, then there is no reason for me to linger anyway.... now is there? I think not......... CLICK ... next profile. I suppose I'm more curious than anything ... to know why men use that phrase. Surely there are men out here in cyberland that are brave enough to offer their definitions pubically? hahahaha But, that is dependent on whether they even know. Maybe it just sounded good on another profile so they used it and the phrase spread like the domino effect !! So far, not one of them have offered to satisfy my curiosity........hahahahaha .... I always enjoy your insight !!! Reality check, Reality Check !!! Thanks, Pat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, come on, Willow. You're overanalyzing to be sure. ARM CANDY, my friend. ARM CANDY. Dreams, dreams, impossible dreams..... These guys want younger broads!!!???? Let them have them. Move on. You strike me as a REAL woman. Give up worrying about these guys who are looking for .... God knows what. Yeah, they may find it....more power to them. YOU, my friend, must just move on. Seems to me you're looking for something REAL. Not horseshit, PeterPan fantasy. Leave the creeps alone....let 'em all go....move on. And you know what? At least half these men looking for some fantasy--they're 24 year old to their 50 year old selves----they're dreaming. 6 months down the road, they'll go for a real relationship. The others--let them have their weirdo setups. In the end....well, who knows. But I'm pretty sure that most of them won't wind up dying happy with true loves at their sides. Pat
